Our Second Visiting artist residency programme opened with artists Mufu Onifade (Nigeria), Bamanye Ngxale (Soluth Africa), Anne Sassoon (Isreal/South Africa), Lea Built (United States of America) and Sheen Rose (Barbados) presenting their previous works as well as sharing what they hoped to achieve at the end of the three month residency.

The artists moved into the shared Greatmore House and were lucky to have their residency coincide with a Thupelo workshop and they were also able to able to participate in the Great Walk and More Festival. Once the artists were established in Cape Town they set to work, creating ANGAZA- an exhibition of works that's come as a result of their time at Greatmore. ANGAZA, is Swahili for meshed light and what a wonderful way to describe to describe the eclectic mix of works. Each and every one had something to bring to the programme from Mufu's self created Ariasm style to Sheena Rose's bubbly personality. It was very exciting to see such energy and productivity in studios.

I spent time with each of them before they left and was very please to have received only positive feedback about their time in Cape Town. Mufu's comments about his experience only confirms that the program of events this year have proved to be beneficial not only to the communitybut to the development of art too.

" The Residency at Greatmore is not only an eye-opener, it is also a new ground to redevelop my art. The Great Walk and More Festival gave me an opportunity to experiment with new materials. It has taken Araism to another level and this will be redeveloped on my return to Nigeria."
It was sad to say goodbye but at the same time it was a comfort to know that all the artist will return to their corners of the globe filled with renewed energy and a few extra lessons under their belt.
