ONE MINUET VIDEO WORKSHOP / KITTY DORJE

A lot can happen in sixty seconds
Thea Brody ( USA )

“A lot can happen in sixty seconds. Stories can be told, opinions can be viewed, feelings can be expressed, stereotypes challenged. A piece of art can take shape. The participating artists in the One Minute video art workshop were drawn from a broad spectrum of different nationalities and backgrounds, representing ten different countries, displaying varying levels of experience and expertise. The one thing the participants had in common, was their powerful creativity, limitless enthusiasm for the project at hand, and a deep thirst for the knowledge and experience that the facilitators had to offer. Armed with cameras, laptops, and editing programs for the participants to use and, a local facilitator Caleb , and all the necessary experience in the technological side of filmmaking and editing the facilitators got us moving. Far from a classroom-style approach to teaching we were all treated as colleagues, artists who had important creative visions to realize.

The workshop was marked by a vibrant atmosphere of shared creativity. People gathered to brainstorm, make fresh suggestions and respond to questions. The commitment to learning from one another was sustained over the four days of the workshop. Each artist contributed something unique to the workshop, and the diversity of the participants was reflected in the diversity of their opinions and ideas. The complete videos reflected thoroughly considered ideas .As Dutch facilitator Alite Thijsen noted, the final product is not the point of the One Minutes it is all about process – the process of learning to cope with new material, and leaving one’s comfort zone, learning from and building upon the input of fellow artists.”
