Khayalethu Witbooi was born in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape. He moved to Cape Town in 1999 and started his art career three years later as an illustrator for the Cape Argus. He has been a resident artist at the Good Hope Studios in Cape Town and has exhibited at the Framery Art Gallery and at the World Art Gallery.
"I guess to be South African is to be accustomed to peace and war, liberty and oppression, black and white and to be a South African artist is to be a provider of the stories that bind these differences," – Witbooi.
