In My Life
Bophelo Bame. Muhupenyu Hwangu.
the Shona and Sepedi translation for "In my life"
Opening 19 November 2007 at 6pm at Jeannette Unites Studio Gallery, 151 Buitenkant street.

Exhibiting artists:
Mercy Moyo I Zimbabwe painter.
"My work focuses on translating to canvas all the beauty of an African woman. The colour of her skin, her idiosyncrasies, her varied reactions towards situations that confront her....incorporating string and other material to my canvasses, there is a unique tactility that emerges around the work. I work with a bright array of colours to draw passers-by into the conversations between women.
Now it's all in the eyes of the beholders tell me what you see." moyomercy05@yahoo.com
Lerato Motau I Soweto, South Africa I Conceptual artists.
"My body of work tells the story of my life now as expressed through my relationships with close friends, represented in my "friendship skirt". Each skirt is made with a specific fir end in mind, and bears the same character and personality of that person. The aesthetic and texture of each skirt has been carefully thought out and executed. The project began when a close friends passed away and I made a skirt in her memory. I then decided to make skirts for some of my other friends celebrating who they have become.
During my residency at Greatmore Studio's, I have allowed my current pregnancy and the emotions to find expression in my work."
