Greatmore Studios has a long and proud history of supporting Art Making and the development of an artists’ professional practice. Many Alumni have gone on to highly successful artistic careers on the global stage, post Greatmore, but we operate at the ground level in an emerging artist’s career: Greatmore’s niche is the essential support for an early (unestablished) artist at that vulnerable stage - when experimentation, un-distracted dedication and a supporting environment are essential. Greatmore Studios is the environment where experience can be deepened and nurtured and confidence and career opportunities developed.

While focusing on supporting emerging artists, Greatmore Studios strongly recognises the importance of connecting with the public: We are aware of the impact that the arts has on societies, its role in widening horizons, supporting social cohesion and promoting innovative thinking. As such, the organisation is deeply committed to developing participatory projects, learning activities and other public events that engage and inspire audiences of all ages.

Twelve artists studios, an event space, a social courtyard space, a digital arts facility, an office, kitchen and forecourt are housed at 47 & 49 Greatmore Street, Woodstock, in Cape Town. We also have a four bedroomed house in Observatory for accommodation of out of town visitors.

Greatmore Studios Trust runs a Resident Artists Program and a Visiting Artists Program.
