With thanks to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund Greatmore has acquired its very own bus. It was proposed that the bus be used for Art Tours and Outreach.
The bus was decorated by Tom Flemming and Edwin Pennicot who drew their inspiration from their residency in Cape Town. The held a print workshop and had 10 youngsters spend the day learning basic print making techniques. Tom and Edwin work with th eimages produced and came up with the design of the bus.
The purpose of the ART BUS will be to provide a link between Art - Audience - Community. Inspired by the decorated buses at the Liverpool Biennale and the public transport of Cape Town City, The greatmore Art bus proposes to be utilised in 3 ways.
1. To make it easier for visitors to come to the area and explore Greatmore Studios along with other art venues in the area. Including a few hidden sectets of Woodstock
2. To take art into the community through Greatmore's outreach programme
3. To provide an alternative art venue
The bus has facilities for sound and video art and so will offer passebgers an opportunity to experience art while travelling. of
The Art Bus has already held successful tours when the idea was launched tours were launched at the recent Great Walk and More Exhibition held on the 25th and 26th June.
It is hoped that the Art Bus Tour will be active early next year.
