Sheena Rose

Sheena Rose was born on September 27th 1985 and received her BFA at the Barbados Community College in 2008. After her graduation she was involved in exhibitions such as Sign of the Times, In transit and 5 weeks, 5 artists.

Rose's work is concentrated mainly in the area of animation which is a hand drawn process collaborated with photographs, transfers and comic strips. Her animations have a surreal quality and deal with issues that are around us such as dreams and personal problems.

In February 2009, Rose's exhibited an animation called Town in the Black Diaspora Visual Art in Bridgetown Barbados. It was organised by National Art Galley Committee and curated by an international London based curator David A. Bailey. Rose receives great responses from viewers, artists, curators, etc.

Afterwards, she presented with UNDP( United Nation Development Planned) and Caricom in Antigua. Shortly after, she was invited by Christopher Cozier and Sean Leonard to exhibit her animation Town in Alice Yard Trinidad and also produce work in a 24 hour residency.

Rose shown her work in Bridgetown Film Festival in May and her work was used as study in a University in Canada and also as a research in INIVA, one of the leading libraries in London.

In November, Rose exhibited in Real Art Ways, Hartford Connecticut which was organised by two curators name are Kristina New-manscott with 39 other Contemporary Caribbean artists and this was a great experience. It was her first time exhibiting in the United States. The animation Town received excellent responses and has been in many reviews.

Recently, Rose exhibited in the Carmichael Prize exhibition in Zemicon Gallery and has won the Public's Choice awards.

Today, Sheena Rose is working on more animations of Town and exhibiting internationally.
