Biography

My work basically deals with my search for identity as a hybridised individual, being coloured, gay and Muslim, and raised by my Christian grandparents. My installation is a stereotypical Cape Coloured living room space, with eight individual self-portraits, reflecting my personal transformation, as well as a performance by my grandmother. Each portrait is hand stitched, sewed and crochet and all the fabrics are recycled.
