The mentorship residency is aimed at emerging artists. All other residencies are aimed at mid careered artists.

Permanent
Current Permanent Resident Artists
Past Permanent Resident Artists
Eight studios are rented as private spaces where local artists work on a full-time basis as permanent residents. The residency can last from 6 months to 3 years depending on availability and the needs of the individual.
In addition to being provided with studio facilities and administrative support, permanent residents can also benefit from Greatmore’s digital programme. Through this programme, permanent residents have unlimited access to the internet, enabling them to keep up to date with events, including exhibitions, residencies and competitions. The programme also includes training courses in selected applications and assistance in building websites.
Permanent resident artists are required to participate in outreach programmes. These activities range from slide shows and workshops to lectures and presentations at various local institutions and schools as well as in communities.
Visiting
The aim of the Visiting Artists Residency is to facilitate cultural exchange and creative dialogue by bringing together international and local artists in a stimulating and supportive environment. In this milieu, artists have formed strong professional bonds and lifelong friendships.
Four studios are allocated for visiting artists. Twelve visiting residencies are available each year, with three to four visiting artists participating at any one time. The duration of the residency is for 3 months.
Visiting artists are obliged to interact with the permanent residents, give a presentation of their work, participate in the outreach programme and exhibit their work at the end of their stay. The visiting residency includes accommodation, studio space, per diems, outreach and materials budget plus an exhibition in Greatmore's Gallery space.
On occasion Greatmore can accept self funded artists. For more infomation contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Curator
Greatmore Studios exists to encourage interaction and artistic exchange between artists in a dynamic environment. It is hoped that this space will allow creativity to be liberated from preconception and social engineering resulting in more culturally diverse and experimental creations.
Since Greatmore Studios’ recent tenth year mark, the studios look forward to cultivating a more natural, more human and creative space with greater opportunities for artists. One of the ways in which Greatmore is developing this, is through its Curator Residency.
It is believed that by acknowledging the importance of curatorships in the contemporary art world and by bringing this highly debated medium into the space, it will add a new stimulus and elevate the studios to new heights.
Greatmore Studios will host 2 curator residencies a year. As part of this residency, the selected curator will develop their project over a 3 month period. The candidate will be selected by a committee and will be expected to share the results of their research in the form of a seminar addressed to an open audience.
The residency will result in a 'curated' exhibition that showcases recent talent from local and international artists. A publication will be produced to accompany the exhibition.
As with the visiting residency, the curator will be offered a working space, accommodation, per diems and exhibition budget.
Mentoring
Greatmore Studios has in the past worked mainly with mid-career artists however, the recently placed “mentoring month” programme has proved to be very successful. Due to this success, a critical need to continue nurturing a new generation of younger artists remains.Twice a year a month long mentoring residency is offered for up to 8 mentees.
In the same fashion as the past mentoring months, Greatmore Studios will accommodate emerging artists who are committed to their career in art making but need guidance from more established artists resident at the studios. This unique opportunity will facilitate cultural exchange and dialogue, stimulating professionalism, creativity and productivity in the young artists.
The co-ordinating of each mentoring residency includes a brief introduction to the Cape Town art world and basic computer and marketing training to better manage and develop their careers. The residency also provides the artists a space to experiment with new art techniques and styles, pushing their work to new levels.
Mentee residents are offered, shared studio space, accommodation, per diems and an exhibition in Greatmore's Gallery space.
