| The VAP is a three-month
artists residency programme, which is open to any artist working in any
media from anywhere in the world. Visiting artists work at the Greatmore Studios in Woodstock, Cape Town, a vibrant suburb situated ten minutes from the city centre. Access to the city is via train, bus or minibus/taxi. The studios are housed in two semi-detached Victorian cottages. There are fourteen studios, with three reserved for visiting artists. The well-lit studios are equipped and contained so that artists can be alone to focus on their work. In addition, artists have access to a printing studio, woodblock printing press, workbenches, outdoor sculpture spaces and a resource centre. Computer facilities are available 24 hours a day, and administrative support is provided for the duration of the residency. Accommodation is available in a large Victorian house in the neighbouring suburb of Observatory. Alternatively, artists may wish to find their own accommodation. All visiting artists are required to take part in outreach programmes and to hold an open studio day or exhibition towards the end of their stay. |
