Visiting Artist Photoshop Workshop - October 2011

This October Greatmore visiting artist, Satadru Banduri hosted a Photoshop workshop. Mainly aimed at artists looking to acquire basic Photoshop skills for image editing to create or update their portfolios, the workshop also served as an introduction to how Photoshop can be used as a medium in itself, in illustration, web design and for publications. Due to overwhelming response to the call, the sessions were split and Satadru worked with two groups of a day.

Sharing his skill with a dozen eager students per session didn’t faze him at all; in fact he seemed quite disappointed he couldn’t accommodate more. Over 12 sessions the participants were taken through a range of Photoshop applications and emerged confident and eager to test their new found skills.

“It’s been exciting to see designers, sculptors, ceramicists, photojournalists and filmmakers show such enthusiasm for this class. It’s been very encouraging,” says Banduri.

"The sessions whizzed by very quickly but I learnt much, much," Nosana (editor, publisher). "Before this workshop, I had been doing my layouts on Word and it was a hassle. I must say, the whole experience has given me a confidence to try out new things."

The One Minute Workshop 2011

This year, the One Minute Foundation, an international organization, is focusing on Africa with an awards ceremony in Egypt. Facillitator Kitty Dörje took this opportunity to get submissions from ten artists from diverse backgrounds in Cape Town. The artists spent a week conceptualizing, shooting and editing their one minute submissions in an interactive group environment.
